Frequently asked questions

BARRE

What should I wear to class?

Form fitting clothing is best so the instructor can see your form but honestly just be comfortable and be prepared to move! You will want to wear STICKY socks which are necessary for certain movements. We have them for sale or bring your own. They are REQUIRED.

How often should I take a class?

For best results we recommend consistently taking 3-4 (or more) classes a week. You may however take it even more.

When will I see results?

Everybody is different. Some respond quicker than others due to many different factors. The average student though will see results after 8-10 classes.

How old does one need to be to take a class?

Yes. Minors aged 14 and up are welcome to take Barre with a parent or guardian. Clients 16-17 years of age will require a New Client Waiver to be signed by their parent or guardian.

What is your cancellation policy ?

To allow clients to maximize the use of their package, the studio strictly enforces the cancellation policy of 8 hours prior via online cancellation. Email or text messages are not accepted. Please be sure of your commitment as there are no refunds.

No-shows will be charged a $15 fee. Late cancels (classes not cancelled 24 hours before scheduled class) will result in forfeiting a class from an individual package or clients with unlimited class packages will be charged a $10 fee to the credit card on file.  On the rare occasion that the studio waives a late cancellation due to injury, illness etc., a doctor’s note is necessary and the discretion is up to the Studio Manager.

If I have injuries, can I still participate?

Share your concerns with your instructor before class. They will be able to provide you with modifications. Some of the most common injuries we see are related to knees, hips, back and shoulders. It is recommend seeing a physical therapist to discuss what types of exercise you should and should not perform just to be safe. Once you share this information with your instructor she can make the appropriate modifications.

Disclaimer: Always consult your physician before beginning any exercise program. This general information is not intended to diagnose any medical condition or to replace your healthcare professional.

Can I attend class during pregnancy?

Yes! However, it is recommended that you begin classes early in your pregnancy and you consult with your doctor before you begin any exercise program. We do require a doctor’s note as well stating this type of exercise is appropriate for you. Barre really is a great workout for pregnant women because it is low impact. The moves are small and controlled and you have an instructor ready to give you hands on adjustments and modifications at all times making sure your alignment is safe.

PILATES

What should I wear?

Pilates is performed in STICKY socks. We recommend sticky socks for hygienic reasons. You should wear comfortable clothing that is not too baggy. This will allow the instructor to see your alignment and to better correct your form.

How often should I perform Pilates to see results?

It is recommended to take Pilates 2-3 times a week. One of Joseph Pilates’ most famous quotes is…. “In 10 sessions you will feel the difference. In 20 sessions you will see the difference and in 30 sessions you will have a whole new body.”

How often should I practice Barre Fusion’s Group Pilates?

The workout is designed to work your body to muscle fatigue. Therefore your body will need some downtime and rest. The amount of rest and recovery time will depend on your body. We recommend at least two times a week but preferably three times for optimal results.

Can you talk about the six “principles” of Pilates?

1. Concentration. This is the most important principle in Pilates. You must be very mentally present as you do the exercises, aware of every aspect of your body’s movement, alignment, sensations, muscle flexes.
2. Control. Every movement is to be done with control, so you aren’t just throwing your body around aimlessly.
3. Centering, so that you are evenly using your body. Think of a plumb line down the middle of the body working both sides evenly.
4. Fluidity. A smooth transition from one exercise to the next. It should look something like a graceful dance, where every movement flows into the next.
5. Precision. You try to make each movement as precise as possible; alignment, placement of your limbs, position of each part of your body is paramount.
6. Breath. How you breathe is very important in Pilate’s exercises. You don’t want to hold your breath at all. Deep, steady breaths is the key to help you maintain concentration and precision.

Is it safe to do Pilates during pregnancy?

If you have already been doing Pilates prior to pregnancy then yes. Your instructor can modify your movements as you go forward. However it is not recommended to begin a new exercise program in the first trimester. After the first Trimester it is safe and it is a great way to keep you toned and prep for delivery. It is always best to consult with your doctor first. We will require a doctor’s note if you choose to take Pilates.

Is Pilates for guys?

Yes! It was founded by Joseph Pilates and it remains a great workout for men!

What if I have back issues?

Building your core will definitely help to improve your back issues. We will teach core engagement and strengthening of the back muscles. Many people turn to Pilates as an outlet to relieve back pain. One on one sessions would be best. If your back problems are severe you will need a doctor’s approval to take Pilates.

Can Teens do Pilates?

Yes. Minors aged 14 and up are welcome to take Pilates with a parent or guardian. Clients 16-17 years of age will require a New Client Waiver to be signed by their parent or guardian.

Your purchase is then applied to your account and you can set up a reservation form there.
